Who attends this event, and why should I hire them?

Historically, 450-475 postdoctoral fellows in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.) fields attend this event. Attendees are actively seeking employment, particularly in the Greater DC Metro region. To view specific details about last year's conference, please visit the 2012 Attendee Information section of our web site.

You should hire S.T.E.M. postdocs because they are some of the nation's brightest individuals! Job seekers featured at this event are Ph.D.'s who were selected from an extremely competitive field to become postdoctoral fellows in federal and university laboratories. They have experience working in a professional environment, and the ability to work in a wide variety of capacities. Further, they can be your link to federal and university laboratories where new technology is constantly being developed. Finally, many local companies return annually to this event because they have successfully hired and retained excellent employees through the career fair.

Has the career fair been successful in the past?

Yes! This June marks the Postdoc Conference and Career Fair's sixth year. While it's difficult to assess how many people have been hired as a result of the event, many companies have returned from year to year, sometimes sending former postdocs that were hired at the event as company representatives.

Does my company need to be local in order to participate?

No. Although the majority of companies at the career fair are from Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia, and the majority of attendees will be seeking work within that region, hiring companies from other states are welcome to attend and have participated in the past.

Why should I register as a sponsor?

Your sponsorship dollars allow us to offer the Postdoc Conference and Career Fair at a minimal cost ($10.00) to postdoc attendees. Your support for the event allows us to attract a highly talented pool of applicants.

Registering as a sponsor entitles your company to extra benefits beyond those associated with being an exhibitor. Sponsors receive increased company visibility from names or logos featured on event signage, in the program book, on conference web pages, and visually at the plenary session. Your sponsorship level may also entitle your company to bring additional representatives to the Conference and Career Fair. Additionally, conference planners take sponsorship into consideration when the exhibit hall floor plan is designed. Please visit the company registration page for a complete explanation of sponsorship levels and benefits.

Can my company participate more broadly in this event?

Yes. Every year, the conference planning committee develops an action-packed schedule complete with panel discussions, a keynote speaker, seminars, and of course, a career fair. If your company is interested in contributing to this year's program, or if you're interested in joining the conference planning committee, please contact Amanda Wilson at awilson@biohealthinnovation.org.

Can I get in touch with candidates before the conference and career fair?

Yes. Conference registrants are encouraged to upload their resumes into our online database. The database is open to all registered sponsors and exhibitors, allowing candidate searches by keyword. If you choose, you may contact candidates to learn more about their credentials, or to schedule an interview. If you have already registered, visit our resume database to view this year's postdoc registrants.

How do I get to the conference?

Refer to our directions page.

How much space will my company be allotted in the exhibit hall?

Each exhibiting company is allotted approximately 10 feet x 10 feet. Each space includes one six-foot skirted table and two chairs. Access to electrical outlets is available upon request. There are no pipe and drape dividers between tables.
